I first joined ebay in 2002 but didnt really look at it or do anything until late last year. Hubby and I had alot of things just taking up room so we looked into selling on Ebay and that is how it started!

It is very easy to join up with ebay, you have two options. Either use an email address from a service provider e.g BT or NTL or use a different email address and put a credit or debit card on file. I think this is just to verify you and they dont use the card details for anything else.

They only need a few bits from you, name, address, phone number and they also want you to provide a username and password so that you can log into ebay.

After you have registered you can start to buy and sell. If you want to sell on ebay you can either put a credit or debit card on file or you can pay your ebay selling fees via a cheque or postal order or by direct debit.

Until a fortnight ago, I was an ebay virgin. I knew of the site, of course - who doesn’t, with the amount of pop-up ads it has with other sites? - but I’d never been so much as tempted to go beyond a quick glance at the home page. It all seemed rather complicated - signing up, browsing, bidding, checking back, ways of paying etc. Then I started collecting DVDs and a friend told me to get myself registered with ebay and start bidding, as there were some serious bargains to be had. Sunbed for the missus, well I came back from work looking a little bit healthy, Florida sun tan so shes a bit miffed, got to sort the problem out before we go on holls, me bronzed, she a milk bottle…haha.

Decided to look for a sunbed, not the usual type but a professional one, a mate from CANADA I was working with gave me the idea, look on EBAY, fantastic, got on the site, what choice, lets start bidding & get a bargain. A few non starters but then the real bargaion just stood up in front of us and said buy me. Well we put our bid in & max bid but unfortunately we could not register our intended max bid it wanted higher, scam we thought & retracted our bid, phew!!!! Started bidding again & this time shings whent smoothly, max bid was in place & we monitored our bidding process, well blow me down we were the winning bidder inside our budget, contacted seller & arranged collection. I had ebay recommended to me first by a friend and then surprisingly by my wife who’s not one normally to sit on the internet for hours on end. This was back in January 2001 and boy, if I had a penny, hey no, let’s say two pence with inflation and all that, for every hour I’ve probably spent on the site since then, I would be one very rich guy by now!

For the unaquainted, ebay is an ‘auction’ site where you can buy and sell pretty much everything you can possibly think of, from computer games to cars and kitchen suites and all the way back again. The site is immaculately presented with clear and concise screens and categories, and you’ll never spend longer than a few seconds looking for what you’re trying to find. Whilst you can browse everything on the site without having to register your personal details, you will need to do so to bid, buy and sell products. Registration however is quick and simple and won’t inconvenience you.

It’s also great, great fun though and comes highly recommended if you’re looking for that certain something that you can’t find anywhere else - chances are it’ll be on offer here!

I started using Ebay a few years ago mostly to buy beenie bears the ty variety, but I quickly realised just how much cheeper you can get some items, its simple to use once you have signed up, I registed to paypal to pay, it cost nothing, I dont buy from anyone with a 98% or less, this is how ebay grades people they get feedback when a transaction has completed, and ebay rates this feedback, its so easy click on buy select catagory, choose what you want to bid on or if you are lucky it will have a buy it now price, confirm to buy or bid, this is a legal contract you are bind by, then pay or wait until the auction finishes, bearing in mind that you can be outbid, however you do get e-mails to confirm the bid, if you are outbid and when the item ends. The only thing is watch what the post and packaging is and where its coming from, some people are very greedy and thats how they get there money.

My tip is watch who you buy from, check the post and packaging price and then enjoy the ebay experiance.

Ebay is one of the biggest online shopping sites on the net you sell your items which is even better then going to a carboot sale.

I have only bought items from Ebay but yet i have only ever had one problem which was a DVD Employee of The Month. I bought from ebay only to find it was an Asian copy i was disapointed after paying £8 but it was from the original DVD but thats not the point i want original DVD.

Every other item i have bought from ebay has been fine and has been really good quality and most times it’s been cheaper then buying from HMV. DVD’s and games i use it for and if i see it cheaper then in shops i will buy them off the internet. You have to be careful when buying items from other country’s as you sometimes get hidden charges. Buying the Skins Series 1 DVD i found strange that it said the location was United Kingdom only to find out it was send from Hong Kong.

As for ebay it’s a site you have to beware of and always check people’s comments and check the photo to see if it is the real item. If you ever problems on ebay try to take up the matter to them to try and help you. Always beware of shopping on ebay because there is tons of fake DVD’s which is really annoying as ebay have not removed some which they should have.

Summary: Good but always be careful when buying from a seller
