I am the proud mom of 10-month-old John. Ever since the age of 3 months John has acquired, to me, what is a very unusual habit. If that’s how it would best be described. When putting John to bed – nap or bedtime, it makes no difference – he insists on putting his fingers into the mouth of whoever is putting him down. There are only four people that do put him down to sleep, all of whom are family members. This is quite a chore.

Why don’t I just stop him, I’m sure you’re asking yourself? It’s impossible. I’ve tried everything. If he is restrained at all from putting his fingers in one’s mouth he will arch his back, throw back his head and scream and cry. He won’t, and I mean won’t, stop until his little fingers are where he wants them: in my mouth. I wonder if this is something I should be concerned about? If there is anyone that could give me some feedback I would love it.

I stared down into his little face and held onto his tiny hand and thought, “Wow, they were all right.” It wasn’t until a few weeks ago that I truly felt what they were talking about.
I was so worried about having to pay the extra fee for being late. I was worried about how my car was running. I was worried about an argument I had with my mother the night before. I was thinking about everything but what matters most in my life, my son.

I made it to the daycare and walked up the stairs to the door. I knocked and walked in. Jason was being held by the daycare provider, and his back was to me. I started to walk into the room, greeting the daycare provider, and she turned so that Jason could see who was there.
I can’t be sure if this was the actual first time he showed signs that he knows who I am, but it was the first time that I was so moved by it. I fell in love with him all over again.

When a pregnancy test is done, usually between 15 and 20 weeks, it is important to know the gestational age of the unborn baby, the age of the mother, her weight, her ethnicity, whether she is diabetic, and whether it is a twin pregnancy. If any one of these factors is reported inaccurately, a false positive or false negative result may occur.
After conception, the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is produced by the placenta and may be found in the blood and urine. Home pregnancy tests are used on urine samples.
For best results, carefully read the directions on each individual test, as instructions may vary — and accuracy depends on you following the directions precisely. If there are terms you don’t understand, look them up or contact the manufacturer — most provide toll-free numbers. In general, be sure to store the test at room temperature, make sure the test has not expired, and do not open the inner package (containing the test device) until you are ready to test.

The new findings are helpful, he said, because so many women buy the pregnancy test kits. In 1999, they bought about 19 million over-the-counter kits in the United States alone. US sales totaled about $230 million, and inserts typically instruct women to test as early as the first day of a missed period.
Unfounded assurance that a woman is not pregnant could have important consequences,” Wilcox said. “For example, women with a negative test result may fail to protect themselves from exposures to toxicants in the workplace or to medications that could damage a developing embryo. Many women will test positive a week or more before their period is expected, while a few women will test positive only a week or more afterward.

Helping your mate understand the baby. Talk to and encourage her all the time. Keep in physical contact so she knows you’re with her.
If the doctor agrees, clamp and cut your baby’s cord. This is the moment your baby really becomes an individual being.
If you feel like crying, don’t hold back. It’s one of the most emotional moments of your life.
By all means photograph or video your partner and baby, but don’t do this to the exclusion of helping them, They are more important than any thing else.
A pediatrician or a neo natal specialist, if there is a potential problem.
A pediatric nurse if your baby is premature.
When you’re in labor
Call the midwife, who will come as soon as possible. She’ll probably have an assistant.
If there’s a problem
Talk to your midwife about when and why she’d recommend a move to the hospital. If that were to happen, you would go in an ambulance. In most in stances, the same mid wives who had attended you at home would care for you in the hospital.
After the birth
The midwife will stay for a couple of hours to make sure that you and your baby are comfortable and healthy, and will return later. You, your partner, and your new baby can spend your first few hours as a family together in your own home.

Well, you’re here now. Baby has arrived. There is no denying that life is different now. Perhaps it’s already hit you that the world as you knew it is now gone and you’ve entered a totally different place. Embrace it. Get ready. Put the fears aside and try to soak up the moment. Sure it’s hard, and scary. But this is cool stuff. A new human baby kid has arrived. I mean, a newborn in your house! A little human! You brought that baby home from the hospital and now it’s just you.
So now what? Think about how it will be to go without sleep for many months. Yes, you need to sleep when the baby does. Don’t kid yourself. In the very few minutes you do find yourself with, you need to get your stuff together. Make a short list of those things that seriously can’t wait. You will be amazed at how many things really can wait when that little baby comes home and puts things into perspective.
You probably have numerous questions that didn’t get answered at the hospital that are critical for the well-being of your new baby. So, in the 2 minutes you have to yourself, consider a tiny bit of research on the Internet. But again, only for essential stuff. Take a look at Baby Wiki as a resource.
Breath. Stay focused. Enjoy.

Create a Guest List
The best way to compile the guest list is by simply asking the mother-to-be who she would like to attend the shower. If the baby shower is a surprise, work closely with the father-to-be to create a guest list. The guest list usually includes friends and family, but a few close co-workers may also be invited. Get address, phone numbers, and email addresses. Also decide if it will be a “girl’s only” shower or a “couples” shower.
These thoughts will get you started so you now can do the rest of the baby shower planning you need to do on your own.

Other ways to stall your baby until the next feeding are you can take time with a diaper change, rock your baby, or help baby find their thumb to suck. With a pacifier, after giving the binkie to baby, go back to bed even if you have to get up every 15 minutes to give the pacifier again. After the early morning feeding between 5-7am put your baby back to sleep and most babies will sleep an additional few hours. This is a good time for you to sleep too. When baby wakes up, you will start to see that if they have gotten enough sleep, they are very happy upon waking. If your baby is crabby after any period of sleep, they probably need to sleep more. Remember BABIES NEED LOTS OF SLEEP!
The schedule I used during the first month was a basic 3 hour schedule, meaning 3 hours from the start of one meal to the start of the next. This is not an exact science but you are “shooting for” or “striving for” staying on schedule. By month 2, we were at a 4 hour schedule. The 4 hour schedule was 6am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm, 10pm, and 2am (give or take 30 minutes either way on any feeding). At 2 months, my daughter seemed to be sleeping longer on her own. One night she slept past 2am to 3:30am. I took my cue and decided to eliminate the 2am feeding.

Listen up, I’m going to give you a great baby shower gift idea. Great baby shower ideas can usually be found by deciding on a theme for your shower and then simply organizing all the necessary elements under your theme. Below is a simple outline of what you will need to host the perfect baby shower.
Baby Shower Theme Ideas
You can narrow down your list of baby shower theme ideas by knowing if the baby is going to be a boy or a girl (though this can be difficult since many moms-to-be prefer not to know their child’s gender until birth). The next step is to pick your theme. Your options are wide open here and you can be as creative as you like. Some sample themes: Diapers, Noah’s Ark, Nursery Rhymes, Zoo (Baby Animals), Sports, Cars, Wizard of Oz, Baby Needs, Rubber Ducks, Smart Baby, Retro (Vintage) Baby, Holidays, Locations and many others make great baby shower ideas. You of course always want to let your guests know what your theme is as early as possible (in your invitation) so that they can plan accordingly.
Hopefully these simple guidelines and tips can help you in planning your own shower for someone special. As mentioned above, deciding on a theme is an excellent way to organize yourself and narrow down your choices when getting all of your baby shower ideas together.
